Air Compressors : Air Compressor Glossary
Bypass - allows air to vent from the compressor to the surrounding environmentHigh Pressure Air - air compressed to over 150 PSI>
Intercooling - the removal of heat between stages of a compressor
Kick-In Pressure - the pressure setting on an air compressor below which the compressor turns on
Kick-Out Pressure - the pressure setting on an air compressor above which the compressor turns off
Load Factor - ratio of average compressor load to maximum compressor load
Low Pressure Air - air compressed to below 150 PSI
PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) - Measure of pressure, often used to compare compression power of compressors
Reciprocating Compressor - a compressor which uses a piston in a cylinder, with a reciprocating motion
Standard Air - air at 68 degrees F, with a relative humidity of 36% and a pressure of 14.7 psia
